Seahawks’ Season Ticket Holders Warned About Selling Playoff Seats vs 49ers

Sports January 14, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for an NFL Divisional Round playoff matchup against their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, at Lumen Field on Saturday night. This will be the team’s first home playoff game in five seasons, so Seattle fans aren’t looking to have any unfamiliar foes amongst them.

On Monday, the organization took proactive measures to ensure the stadium remains a pro-Seahawks’ crowd, issuing stern warnings to season ticket holders caught reselling their seats.

The warnings, delivered via email, bolster the type of dedication this franchise has in making back to the Super Bowl. By monitoring resale listings through digital ticketing systems, the Seahawks aim to curb practices that could lead to an influx of opposing fans, keep that world-renown homefield advantage at full force.

As the anticipation builds for the 49ers-Seahawks matchups, the policy has sparked discussions about fan loyalty, ticket accessibility, and the business of sports. Some see it as a necessary step to preserve the advantage, while others question its fairness in an era of rising ticket prices.

Email Goes Out to Seahawks Fans

The email sent to flagged Seahawks’ season ticket holders read:

“Our records indicate that your seats for the upcoming Divisional Round Playoff game are currently posted for resale. As communicated prior to the 2025 season, 2026 renewal eligibility may be impacted if it is determined that your season tickets, including any playoff games, were used primarily for resale purposes.” To avoid any impact to your renewal eligibility, we ask that you remove your resale listing and ensure your tickets are used by another 12. We encourage you to distribute your tickets directly to friends, family members, neighbors or community groups that will help us pack Lumen Field with blue and green.”

The “12” refers to fans of the Seahawks, who are commonly known as the “12th Man.” While it does raise ethical concerns, it is a legal move that the franchise can take advantage of.

Reasons Behind the Seahawks’ Strict Policy

The move comes at a timely moment, as the 49ers have one of the largest followings in the NFL and can turn an opposition’s home game into a neutral-field type of atmosphere. The Seahawks, coming off a highly-successful season that earned them the NFC’s No. 1 seed, are determined not to let resale markets dilute their support.

Implemented last spring after a disappointing 3-6 home record, the policy addresses broader concerns about fan engagement and stadium atmosphere.

It should also be noted that 49ers’ games have had plenty of fights involving fans, whether the games are at Levi’s Stadium or on the road. Perhaps, with a spot in the NFC Conference Championship Game on the line, the Seahawks would like to keep things as civil as possible in the stands.

Fan Reactions to Seahawks’ Ruling

Reactions among fans are mixed. Some applaud the move, citing a 10,000-person waitlist for season tickets as evidence of demand from true supporters. Others argue it infringes on personal freedoms, especially with playoff tickets fetching high prices on the secondary market.

“If they determine that your tickets were primarily used for resale, I think that is the tipping point,” said Jeff Hindle, a Seahawks season ticket holder.

Hindle added, “You go there for a collective experience, and yeah, it’s fun sparring with fans from other teams and things like that in a fun way. But it’s way more fun high-fiving a Seahawks fan when something fantastic happens.”

Other fans like Crystal White and her family could be affected, but she understands.

“I’m a Rams fan. My husband is a 49er fan. And my son is a Seattle fan,” said Crystal White, who understands the team’s position on ticket resales. “I get that. Support your own hometown team.”
